Language Reflections - About my Interpreting

My History...
It began with the occasional interpreting request after having done translations professionally for several years. (Please go to the translations part of my web site to learn more about that service.) Gradually I was performing more and more consecutive interpreting when I had a big break.

Someone recommended me highly to an interpreting agency that was in a jam. It was just days from a major conference and the agency had neglected to schedule any interpreters. They contacted me, but did not tell me that the assignment was to be for several days of long hours doing simultaneous conference interpreting in the booth. I was actually told that I was to interpret one short welcome speech and then would be doing consecutive interpreting for small "break out sessions" in the following days. I got to the conference and found myself interpreting for a serious conference. How serious was it? It was a scientific conference and my booth partner from New York, a seasoned conference interpreter of many years, said after the conference that it was the hardest conference she had ever done. In fact it was so hard that two other interpreters were not up to the task and had to leave after the first day. That was my first conference! I think you will find that I can deliver first-class service for any project you may have.

My Background...
I grew up in a German-speaking household in the United States and was educated in both the U.S. and Germany in biological science, chemistry, medical school and linguistics. I found that I have a natural talent for language and the rare combination of skills to make me both an excellent translator and interpreter. My background in the sciences, education outside of linguistics, and variety of skills gives me the advantage of not only a wide knowledge base but also the ability to apply that knowledge to my interpreting. On top of that I am accent free in both German and English. Sound too good to be true? Just listen to my voice samples online.
